Here's how to make the mittens:

  1. Cast on 30 m / 30 m / 32 m.
  2. Knit 2 rows in the round.
  3. Work pattern border as shown in diagram, or 9 knit rows in solid color if border is to be embroidered.
  4. Knit 2 rows in stockinette again.
  5. Knit rows: 12 rows / 12 rows / 14 rows.
  6. On the following rounds, mark the thumb on the inside - (right and left sides respectively).
    1. Mark the inch stitches: for size S-M, mark 5 stitches; for L-XL, mark 6 stitches.
    2. Use a different color yarn (thumb yarn) so that you can pick them up again when you knit the thumb
  7. Work from the thumb mark: 18 rows / 20 rows / 22-24 rows.
  8. Cut-in for the top of the mitten:
    1. Knit 1 and 3: Knit 1 st, slip 1 st, knit 1 st and pull the slipped stitch over.
    2. Knit 2 and 4: When 3 sts remain, knit 2 together, knit 1 st.
    3. Continue the insertion until 8 m remain in total.
    4. Pull the yarn through all stitches and fasten the thread.

Thumb

  • Pick up the stitches at the marker:
    • Size S/M: 5 + 5 stitches
    • Size L/XL: 6 + 6 stitches
  • Then add 2 stitches on each side. In total you get 14m / 16 sts.
  • Work thumb approx: 10 rows / 11 rows / 12 rows. Then make decreases in the same way as on the mitten to shape the top. Attach all threads

When both mittens are finished, wash them in the wool program with
wool detergent.

Make a cord (x2) by crocheting or twisting the yarn, and make tassels to attach to the cord. Attach the cord to the bottom edge of the
border on the outside of the mittens. Embroider a border of your choice. Perfect way to use up leftover wool yarn.

Good luck to you!
